I PROGETTI:

Emiliano Ponzi

Flower Up

2025

Emiliano Ponzi – known for his conceptual, sharp, and refined style – is one of the most highly regarded, recognized, and awarded Italian illustrators in the world. In fact, paradoxically, he was discovered and appreciated in the United States even before gaining recognition in Italy. Thanks to a mix of luck and boldness, Emiliano Ponzi landed his first major illustration job in 2004 for The New York Times, which marked his breakthrough. From that moment on, his career has been a steady rise marked by accolades, awards, and increasingly significant international projects.

Since 2019, he has served as the art director responsible for the visual identity of the Pensavo Peccioli festival for all its editions. Furthermore, from March 2023 to January 2024, Palazzo Senza Tempo hosted Anthologica, a “condensed” retrospective of the artist’s work, curated by Federica Cano Correa and Stefano Cipolla, art director of L’Espresso.

This long-standing collaboration inspired the idea of hosting some of his works in Peccioli. The first is FLOWER UP, an art installation presented at Fuorisalone 2024 in the Brera Design District, which the artist chose to donate to Peccioli.

Flower Up consists of a large sculpture made of iron and steel – an abstract representation of a flower and its continuous transformation.

The visual aims to represent a hopeful message: to sow seeds of sharing, as sharing is the best way to foster empathy. No matter the circumstance, the outcome will always leave us a little more human. Being amazed under a triumph of colors and shapes, designed to help us reconnect with a shared emotional experience. Flower Up is a call to action – from a single petal to a multitude, capable of influencing one another in a positive dance.

The piece was produced by Glo and curated by Cristiano Seganfreddo. It represents another milestone in the broad, traveling art initiative “glo for art” – a format created to support art and promote the democratization of artistic experiences. Each artwork is then donated free of charge to an institution so it can be displayed and spread art in all its forms.

“We chose Peccioli because of the bond I have with the area, its wonderful people, and the incredible artistic and cultural initiatives that have made it a unique center of excellence in Italy. The work will become part of the important collection of MACCA, the Open-Air Museum of Contemporary Art.”
